The USDA-ARS in collaboration with the University of Missouri is searching for a postdoctoral research fellow to evaluate climate smart agricultural practices. A full-time position is available located in Columbia, MO. The position will work in close collaboration with the Long-Term Agro-ecosystem Research (LTAR) network eddy covariance working group.
The successful candidate will be supervised by Dr. Adam Schreiner-McGraw (USDA-ARS) and Dr. Jeffrey Wood (University of Missouri), in close collaboration with Dr. Russ Scott (USDA-ARS) and Dr. Claire Phillips (USDA-ARS).
The LTAR network has deployed eddy covariance towers across the United States but has not fully leveraged the available data. The position entails consolidating the LTAR eddy covariance data and using the data to evaluate the ability of agricultural lands to sequester carbon and thrive in a changing climate with increasing extreme weather events. This is of critical importance for identifying and promoting mitigation opportunities to reduce overall US agricultural carbon footprint while also increasing productivity and building resilience to climate change. This position will work closely with a second post-doctoral candidate at Archibold Biological Station (https://archbold-station.org/) who is focused on the carbon balance of US grazing lands.
This position is grant funding dependent, and there is support for a two-year position. The initial postdoctoral appointment, will be for one year, and will be renewable depending on available work, continued funding, and performance.
Ph.D. in earth science, environmental engineering, hydrology, atmospheric science, or related field. Previous experience with eddy covariance and a coding language is highly desirable. Previous experience with carbon budgets and agricultural lands is also desirable, but not required. Ability and desire to work collaboratively and to also work independently. High levels of project leadership, time management, communication, and writing skills.
Applicants should submit a cover letter detailing their relevant background and experiences, a CV, and names and contact information for three professional references to email@example.com. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. Please contact PI Adam Schreiner-McGraw (firstname.lastname@example.org) with any questions.
