Call for Abstracts
These themes are of special interest this year, but all topics are welcome:
1) Remote sensing, e.g. SIF, linking ground based and satellite observations, Linking data across scales and methods
2) Methane, e.g. Methane in the tropics, methane sinks, methane pathways under various hydrologic, biologic, and soil conditions
3) Nature based climate solutions, carbon offset monitoring
4) Urban fluxes, challenges, opportunities, best practices, tower set up, data processing
5) Diverse ecosystems, understudied ecosystems, technical/scientific/logistical challenges
6) Data processing tools, visualizing, AI in flux data, novel modeling approaches, Issues around AI, open source code development
7) Alternative flux measurement techniques, non eddy-covariance approaches, trace gas techniques, underwater fluxes, low cost, low energy sensor techniques, stable isotopes
8) General Flux Science: submit your abstracts on any work relating to eddy covariance fluxes
Talks
Contributed talks will be presented either in-person or remotely on zoom.
Contributed talks will include a short Q&A. The talks will be recorded, to be shared with the community after the meeting.
We particularly encourage submissions of team presentations or interactive formats. Science is a team effort! Submit a talk abstract with multiple presenting authors, include Early Career team members or collaborators to present some slides or engage in the chat – be creative!
New this year: Based on feedback from last year, team presentations can have no more than 3 presenting authors.
Posters
We are planning a traditional poster session for in-person attendees. In addition, we would like to make posters available to virtual participants as well. To facilitate this, we will request a pdf file of the poster about a week before the event, even if you are presenting in person.
A virtual poster session in gather.town will be held on October 10, and will be open to all attendees.
Additional info
In most years, we receive more submissions for presentations than there is room on the agenda. If your abstract is not selected for a talk, you will be offered to present a poster instead. Scientific merit and thematic fit are our main criteria for selecting abstracts for contributed presentations. In addition, we aim for a balance of contributions that are delivered in-person and virtually, and a list of speakers that represents the multifaceted community of AmeriFlux.
Call for Breakouts
For some inspiration, find the list of breakout topics from 2022 here(bottom of the page), from 2021 here and from 2020 here.
Typically, breakout sessions are organized and chaired by the person or group of people submitting them. You can indicate with your submission if you are interested in finding co-organizers. Breakout sessions can take different formats, such as short science presentations followed by discussions, panel formats, guided discussions etc. We expect to have a (limited) number of zoom-room setups available, enabling breakout sessions with in-person and virtual participants. If you propose a hybrid breakout, we request that at least one of the session conveners attends the meeting in person, to be able to facilitate in the breakout room. Alternatively, you may propose a virtual-only breakout session, with conveners and attendees participating through zoom.
If YOU would like to lead a breakout session, please submit your breakout session proposal here by July 23.
Once again, we will host the meeting in hybrid mode. This meeting is open to anyone who works with eddy covariance flux methods or datasets, including early career scientists!
A full in-person meeting will take place in the middle of Massachusetts, US, with visits to the historic Harvard Forest Research site. We are trying to arrange the plenary session again in an outdoor tent.
Presentations and breakout discussions will be open to virtual attendees as much as technically feasible. Certain agenda items (site visits, walks, in-person poster session) may not be accessible to virtual attendees (but if you have creative hybrid-meeting ideas, please reach out). Virtual attendance will be free this year. A virtual poster session will take place in the week after the in-person meeting, giving all a chance to attend.
As always, all feedback and suggestions are welcome. Please feel free to reach out to any of the organizing committee members (listed below) with your thoughts.
