CARBON CYCLING IN BOREAL PEATLANDS AND CLIMATE CHANGE II WORKSHOP, FINLAND
September 25, 2017 - September 29, 2017
The latest knowledge on the role of carbon cycling in relation to predicted climate change, and to stimulate collaborations and exchanges between Finnish scientists and international experts.Goals of the workshop:
1. Present the latest results about carbon cycle in boreal peatlands in relation to climate change to evaluate the current state of the art
2. Compile existing data to address peatland biogeochemistry response to climate change, e.g.
a. Greenhouse gas dynamics, DOC leaching
b. Soil carbon storage
c. Vegetation and biomass, litter production and decomposition
d. Microbes and soil fauna
3. Identify major gaps in the current knowledge and promote collaborative research addressing them
Field excursions will be organized to Hyytiälä ICOS/SMEAR II station and Siikaneva mire ICOS site and experimental sites in Lakkasuo mire.
Preliminary program will be announced by December 2016. The final registration deadline will be April 2017.
