Northern Arizona University invites applications for a cluster hire in Remote Sensing Applications and Instrument Development. We seek to fill multiple faculty positions in two distinct tracks with start dates of August 2024:

Tenure-track faculty at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor (multiple positions)
Research-track (not-tenure eligible) faculty (multiple positions)

Successful candidates will have an academic home in an appropriate department/college commensurate with their training and experience; additionally, they will be invited to support the planning and development of a new remote sensing research center. Potential academic units participating in this cluster hire include, but are not limited to:

School of Forestry
Department of Astronomy and Planetary Science
Department of Mathematics & Statistics
School of Informatics, Computing, and Cyber Systems
Department of Anthropology
Department of Geography, Planning, and Recreation
School of Earth and Sustainability
Department of Mechanical Engineering

The successful candidate will:

Build and maintain a vibrant and collaborative research program that is supported by external funding and produces peer-reviewed science in an area related to remote sensing.
Teach at the undergraduate and/or graduate level (not applicable to Research-track hires)
Perform service to the department, the university, and the broader professional community.
Mentor and advise both undergraduate and graduate students.

Candidates must be committed and able to work effectively within a diverse university community. The successful candidate will be expected to collaborate extensively with new and current faculty while extending our current research across multiple academic units. Mentoring and teaching opportunities will be housed within the individual’s home academic unit.

Tenure-track faculty will be expected to contribute to NAU’s academic community as teacher-scholars with workload assignments toward teaching, research, and service commensurate with the policies of their academic home units; workload allocation to research will be dependent on productivity and successful garnering of grant funding.

Research-track faculty will be expected to contribute to NAU’s remote sensing research portfolio and service commensurate with the policies of their academic home units; these positions are subject to the successful garnering of grant funding.

The Research-track faculty position is subject to the availability of funding. The incumbent is not eligible for Service Professional non-renewal notice, or Classified Staff layoff, or recall status.

This position is an on-site position which requires the incumbent to complete their work primarily at an NAU site, campus, or facility with or without accommodation. Opportunities for remote work are rare.
