Position Description
The CREATE Climate-Smart Soils (smartsoils.ca) program at the University of Guelph, Ontario, Canada seeks a qualified candidate to serve as Postdoctoral Researcher for 2 years with the opportunity for renewal thereafter. In this full-time position the successful candidate will focus on scaling up large datasets on soil processes and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to identify climate-smart soil management practices and work with a multi-disciplinarity team to develop a roadmap for GHG emission reduction for agroecosystems.
Opportunities
The successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in lab and field experiments aimed at measuring and modelling net GHG emissions using tools such as micrometeorological techniques and biogeochemical models, co-author peer-reviewed publications, engage with various stakeholders, and attend professional conferences. This research will be conducted within a collaborative program targeted at graduate student training and involving six universities and collaborating partners form various sectors (e.g. industry, government) across Canada. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to mentor graduate students and play a leadership role within the Climate-Smart Soils program. Qualifications
Applicants must have a PhD awarded within the last four years with strong training and experience in a relevant science or engineering program, with emphasis on atmospheric or soil science. Experience conducting field research of soil/plant processes and/or surface-atmosphere exchange, ability to work with large datasets and/or biogeochemical models, authoring peer-reviewed articles, making academic and/or outreach presentations, leading training programs and participating in external research grants is desired. The successful candidate will have ability to work independently and have excellent organizational and problem-solving skills. Applicants must be enthusiastic about working in a collaborative environment and excited to work in agri-environmental issues in Canada.
