Science staff with the USDA Forest Service‘s Institute of Pacific Island Forestry (IPIF), located in Hilo, Hawaii, are seeking a post-doctoral fellow to assist with our mission towards leading basic and applied research efforts on the conservation, management and restoration of tropical forests in Hawaii and the US Affiliated Pacific. The primary objective of the fellow’s research is to synthesize, analyze, and integrate disparate data streams using available network data. Research activities will focus on large-scale permanent forest plots in the Pacific, including from the National Ecological Observatory Network (NEON), and forest dynamics plots of the Smithsonian’s Forest Global Earth Observatory (ForestGeo – https://forestgeo.si.edu/) with an emphasis on the Hawaiʻi and Palau ForestGeo plots.
Position: Postdoctoral Researcher
Location: USFS Institute of Pacific Islands Forestry, Hilo, Hawaii
Duration: The appointment is for two years, preferably beginning in Fall 2022
Compensation: – starting salary $66,662-$71,107, depending upon qualifications

Candidate Profile: -PhD in ecology, forest ecology, or environmental science at the time of hire
– strong analytical training and a promising record of scholarly research
– strong written and communication skills, a demonstrated ability to work in a team environment, and interest in collaborating with an interdisciplinary team of collaborators
